This project on a cove leading to Spa Creek and subsequently to the Chesapeake Bay involved a thorough-going renovation to an early twentieth century cape cod style home, and an addition overlooking the cove.
The renovation and addition were designed for aging-in-place. The single story addition features a “covered dock” porch, with a master suite giving onto the “covered dock”. and connecting back through the house via a gallery.
Simplicity governed each decision and move, with the kitchen becoming the heart of the home.
A new energy-efficient building envelope, geothermal heat pump, onsite stormwater management in the form of raingardens, and passive daylighting and ventilation strategies round out the design approach.
